Happy Easter to all our Christian readers. And to you, dear ones, who are not Christians, I hope that you’re enjoying Spring already. And, if it’s not yet Spring at your end of the globe, I hope that you are just having a really good day.
Today, christians like me, all over the world, will be celebrating the Easter Sunday and there will be a lot of Easter messages. Celebrating the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. According to Scripture, we believe that Jesus was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. As christians, we believe and confess that through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the price for sin, thus making a new life possible for all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus.
Now, for me personally, given that the season of Easter almost always coincides with the onset of the beautiful and vibrant season of spring. The two seasons bring for me a reminder of what life is, of what love means and of the promise of new beginnings.
On the one hand, the resurrection of Christ does not only assure me of a life after, it also guarantees me a good life here on earth. His death tells me that dark days will come. This season, while some people will be busy with Easter eggs, bunnies, baskets and suchlike, I am reminded that I will be misunderstood, mistreated, and sometimes wrongly accused. And the days He laid dead has taught my heart that there would be days when I could hear nothing, see nothing and completely blank out, but that, that too is ok. The life He lived constantly reminds me of the importance of integrity and living a life prompted by good will and a generosity and kindness of spirit, and which though is divine, is something I can aspire to. His life has also taught me to own up completely to my own weakness and imperfection, for only then can I rejoice in His strength and His grace.
I know that they will be some of my readers who do not share my faith and will disagree with this first part of this blog post. But it is ok for you to disagree with me and it is ok for me to respectfully share my faith and my views.
On the other hand, and you will mostly agree with me on this one, Spring is always a time for a fresh start. It is that time of when everything comes to life, you see green almost every where you look, or at least the promise of green. Butterflies. Budding trees. Blooming flowers. Sunshine. More skin (…yes, I know). You see more people laughing. And if you live anywhere like Spain, the days will become longer and the nights shorter and you will find more people drinking more beers. Generally, wherever you are, springtime just brings with it a sense of more life and more living. But then, it is also a reminder that even the seasons go through a process, for before green leaves will reappear on those trees stripped bare during autumn, there must be rain. Showers of rain. Torrents of rain. And after the rain, green leaves and flowers always appear.
As I write this, the Easter seasons stirs up faith and gratitude in me, for even though I believe very strongly in something which a lot of people question, something that I have no scientific proof of, life has taught me that science will never be able to prove a lot of things, including our dreams and aspirations.
As I write this, I am reminded and I see it very clearly, that no matter where I find myself in my journey, as long as life and the seasons remain, springtime will always come, and whatever might have gone wrong could go right, if I water the right soil, if I allow rain. I am reminded and I want to remind you too that hope is never lost.
So, daily I make a conscious decision, to hold on to my faith, and to celebrate that faith and all that it entails.
I choose to look forward to Spring. To water my soil, even in the autumns of life, and to patiently wait for my trees to bud and for my flowers to bloom.
Remember dear ones, that no matter what you might have gone through or what you are going through right now, or what might come your way in the future, as long as there is life, the seasons will remain. Spring will come and everything will spring to life again. And, mostly this season of life is when Christians all over the world choose to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
A very Happy Easter to you all.
What a lovely post with lovely sentiment. I love spring.
Thank you Eliza. It seems to me that spring is that time of the year when literally everything comes to life, including sentiments. 🙂
