Promise myself to be…

No matter what anybody might tell you, life can be tough sometimes. And, so it should  be.

It’s been said that nothing good comes easy, and life is good, so it shouldn’t be handed to anyone on a platter. Life is not a bed of roses. Its rainbows appear every once in a while and usually after a storm. Life’s beautiful sunrises and breathtaking sunsets always appear after the dark nights and after a full day. Those gorgeous butterflies are a story all in itself.

Nobody promised it would be easy.

So, as you live through every storm, every setback, every difficulty, every road block, every dark night, as you cry your tears…

As you celebrate every victory, as you rejoice over every gift, every achievement, every success, every miracle, as you laugh your laughs…

Make these promises to yourself, and keep them forever.

  • Promise not to hold the past against yourself. Problems, weaknesses, setbacks, regrets and mistakes teach you if you’re willing to learn, or they will punish you if you’re not. So let them teach you, every day.
  • Promise to keep learning, every time, every day, everywhere, from every one.
  • Promise to be diligent in your work and pursuits.
  • Promise to free yourself from the world’s negativity – from all sources of ignorance telling you what you can and cannot do. To let go of relationships that are obviously not meant to be. To surround yourself with people who will build you up.
  • Promise to let go of bitterness, unforgiveness and malice.
  • Promise yourself to look ahead, to live ahead, and to get ahead.
  • Promise to take everything as a lesson learned.
  • Promise to give yourself a break, to stop being so hard on yourself and to speak kindly and consciously to yourself.
  • Promise to fight back, to fight harder, to laugh louder and longer and slap adversity back into its seat whenever it dares to stand against you.
  • Promise to own your life and never deny responsibility for it.
  • Promise to listen to what your heart and soul is telling you, to pay attention to your authentic feelings, and follow where they lead.
  • Promise to live a life that feels right to you, not the one that looks right to others. To stop trying to please the people in your life at your own expense.
  • Promise to give yourself permission to follow the path that makes YOU happy.
  • Promise never to let any situation or anyone permanently steal your smile or your joy.
  • Promise never to look down on anyone and never to despise anyone, no matter how different from you they are.
  • Promise to celebrate and appreciate the life you have and to stop complaining about the things you still don’t have.
  • Promise to realize the gifts and power you have and to use all of them to make a difference.
  • Promise to lend a helping hand, a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on to those who might need it.
  • Promise to dedicate yourself to personal excellence and to keep stretching yourself beyond all previous level of comfort.
  • Promise to embrace the changes you know you need to make and to take the necessary actions to build the future you desire and deserve.
  • Promise never to lose sight of the beauty and the opportunities that abound in the present.
  • Promise to become an agent of change and to be a force to be reckoned with – because you are a force to be reckoned with.
  • Promise to read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, actually just promise yourself to read
  • Promise to back these promises with devoted action.

Which of the points above resonate with you the most? What promises do you want or need to make to yourself?
