Show Off – Yay or Nay!

The Laws of Life

I have learnt to like and greatly admire people who show off. Those people who openly share about the good in their lives but also give us glimpses about the struggles they have faced and how they heal.

You see, most of us everywhere were taught the culture of hiding. 

We were taught to be humble. The definition of humility seem to vary from people to people.
But many people, all over the world were taught to cover their lights and hide our treasures, lest the destroyers and thieves see them and pounce. 
We were taught to muffle our cries and smile through our tears. 

We learnt to pretend that all is well when it isn’t. 
And to pretend that we don’t have something when we do.

Social Media has magnified all that a few hundred folds. 

I am not here to tell you what is right or wrong – because it is not about right or wrong. 

But, I do believe that more often than not, we need to learn how and when to proudly show off what we got. 
Take pride in and announce your gifts to the world. 

Show off what you have been given and ask of the world what you do not have. 

Because there will also be times when we need to share about where we hurt and how we healed. 

We all just need to learn how, where, when and with whom to do one and the other.

Remember that not everyone who sees your blessings will wish you well, and not all who sees your blessings will wish you evil. 

And so, these days whenever I see people who show off their blessings, my heart rises in celebration. 

In a world where you are judged and attacked for sharing a happy marriage, a certificate, a new pair of shoes or for sharing a failed business venture, a differing opinion or an opposing orientation… 

It is refreshing for me to see people who brave it and share their humanity with open heart. 

The ones who speak up: whether it is to share their questions and inquiries to share their perspectives. 
The ones who engage with other humans – rejoicing with the ones who rejoices or mourning with the ones who mourn. 

But if the ones who rejoice are bullied into hiding their rejoicing, then how can we rejoice with them? 
If the ones who mourn, are forced to do so in silence, how can we obey God and nature to mourn with them? 

How can we be fully human if we do not show up and show off? 

Even God shows off. And whose child are you? (If you are a Christain)

What I will always say is any story shared too soon or to seek validation or adulation may trigger negative energy.

People ask me when to share. My answer is usually to only share when you are at a place where public opinion will trigger you negatively or push you into a cesspit of negative emotions or any kind of emotions that you cannot navigate for good.

Whatever you do, remember that when you show off with the right heart and attitudes and words, you will bless more people than the ones who will be triggered wrongly.
